A Unique Home

Scottsdale Cardio Center

When Dr. Ibrahim opened the practice in rented space in 1977, he already knew that he wanted Scottsdale Cardiovascular Center to have its own, unique home. He commissioned a disciple of the famous Frank Lloyd Wright to design a free-standing building to house the center. One of the design criteria Dr. Ibrahim had given the architect required that the building be unique in its appearance so that it could be easily described and recognized by patients seeking the center's services. The sleek, low-appearing building with the distinctive patinaed copper roof certainly met Dr. Ibrahim's expectations and the Scottsdale Cardiovascular Center opened its doors for the first time in 1983.

A Growing Practice

While under construction, Dr. W. Scott Robertson joined the practice as its first partner. With his arrival, services were expanded, especially in the area of stress echocardiography. Soon the two physicians added another partner, Dr. Barbara Prian, and later on, Dr. Andrew Jacob. As technology advanced, new services were added, among them peripheral vascular diagnostic and nuclear cardiology services. An interventional cardiologist, Dr. Bradley Oswood, soon joined the partnership and together with Dr. Jacob, expanded the interventional cardiology services at the Osborn and Shea campuses of Scottsdale Memorial Hospitals, now Scottsdale Healthcare.

With the retirement of Dr. Prian and Dr. Jacob’s decision to pursue a career in Law (Shareholder with Polsinelli Shughart PC), new partners joined the practice: Dr. Kris Vijay, a cardiologist with special interest in heart failure, diabetes and clinical research, followed by Dr. Alan Tenaglia, an interventional cardiologist, and Dr. Philip Gideon, a cardiologist with special interest in echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Robert Burke, Dr. Wesley Tyree and Dr. Maulik Shah joined our practice in the few years. Recently, Dr. Berkley Benneson joined Scottsdale Cardiovascular Center.

A Bright Future

Ever increasing patient demand required the addition of three more cardiologists, Dr. Robert Burke, with special interests in general cardiology and echocardiography, Dr. Wesley Tyree, whose interests lie in the areas of general  cardiology and nuclear cardiology, and Dr. Maulik Shah, our interventional cardiologist.  Dr. Berkley Benneson, interventional cardiologist joined our group this past year. It is only reasonable to assume that this dynamic group of cardiologists will continue to expand the practice and attract additional cardiologists with sub-specialty interests in the future.
